Where We Work
Over 70 different people groups call the East African nation of Kenya home. Although the official languages are Kiswahili and English, each people group has its own mother language, facial features and traditions.
While AfricaHope works with several Kenyan groups, their physical location in the southwestern part of Kenya places them in the rural areas predominantly populated by the Maasai people. The Maasai are essentially the poster children of Africa. Much of Western photography and film portrays the colorful Maasai people when referring to all things African, and they are often exploited for their “photogenic qualities.”
A pastoral people, full of beauty and sorrow, the Maasai enjoy life and wrestle with survival in a beautiful land – a wild and harsh land becoming more inundated by civilization.
